Recently our twelve year old grand-daughter joined a book club. Yes, kids can have book clubs, just like their parents!
One night, we were invited to sit down with the five girls and two parents who facilitate the club. We heard mature discussion and expressions of empathy as the girls analyzed that month’s story. Their friendship has deepened as they have shared books about hardship and triumph. They have admired inspirational heroes and heroines and laughed at humorous characters.
Sometimes the girls prepare a snack that matches the theme of the book. Maybe they will eat cornbread when they read Railroad of Courage!
