Recently our twelve year old grand-daughter joined a book club. Yes, kids can have book clubs, just like their parents!
One night, we were invited to sit down with the five girls and two parents who facilitate the club. We heard mature discussion and expressions of empathy as the girls analyzed that month’s story. Over time, the girls’ friendships deepened as they shared books about joy, grief, hardship and triumph. They have admired inspirational heroes and heroines and laughed at humorous characters.
Sometimes the girls prepared a snack that matched the theme of the book. Maybe they ate cornbread when they read Railroad of Courage!
